Hi friends,
How's your August been?
For a change, I've spent most of my time this month "offline", tweeting much less about my progress with Tutorpass.
This doesn't mean that nothing is being done. There are a lot of humdrum jobs on my to-do list. They mainly involve writing 100s of unit tests and tidying up the codebase to ensure Tutorpass is bug-free. Nothing exciting!
I’ve thought about bringing in someone to help but have since decided against it. It's too much, too soon. I need to launch, prove product-market fit and provide a SMART case for building out a team.
Building a tool that many people will use
As I near the completion of the Tutorpass MLP (minimum loveable product), I've reflected more earnestly on whether Tutorpass' initial premise still holds.
I started Tutorpass as a product for course creators wanting to build a community. However, I am becoming increasingly skeptical of using language that results from being part of an inner circle. There are also several products attempting this, and so this functionality is no longer a key differentiator for me.
Tutorpass' long-term plan is to build out the world's best teaching and learning infrastructure. In step 1 of the secret master plan shared last month, I wanted to "build something that many people could use".
What does that look like in the short term?
Who are the people I want to serve?
What do they need from my product?
Where will this product fit into their daily lives?
After considering the above, I’ve decided to micro-pivot Tutorpass. In short, a micro-pivot happens when one or more parts of your company experience a slight tweak to better serve a long-term purpose.
I want to share this micro-pivot with you and get your thoughts.
This is will be a two-part series. You can check out the first part here.
Thanks for reading. Until next month.
